Education and Professional Associations

Dr. Christy earned her Bachelors of Science in Biology from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 2003. After spending a year in Boulder, she decided to start her journey to become a pediatric dentist. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2008, receiving her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree. She immediately started her pediatric training at the Ohio State University/Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, OH – one of the top residencies in the country. She received her Masters of Science from the Ohio State University in 2010.

Dr. Christy moved back home to southern Illinois following her residency in the summer of 2010. She has been practicing pediatric dentistry full time since moving home and opened the doors of Southern Illinois Pediatric Dentistry in February of 2016. She is a member of the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and is a diplomat of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry.

In her spare time, Dr. Christy enjoys spending time with her family. She lives in Edwardsville with her husband, Dr. Jake Schuette (also a dentist!), and their daughter, Dylan. She also has two rescue dogs and two rescue cats and is active in the animal rescue community. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, golfing, playing tennis, and (of course) walking her dogs.

Dr. Adam Snyder DMD, MS

Dr. Snyder is a board certified pediatric dentist. He is passionate about providing the highest quality dental care for local families – and creating fun and painless experiences for the kids!

Education and Professional Associations

Dr. Snyder earned his Bachelors of Science in Biology at Saint Louis University. In 2007, he graduated from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree.

After serving as a general dentist and Chief Dental Officer at Family Care Health Center for two and a half years, Dr. Snyder decided to continue his education to earn advanced and specialized training in the specialty of pediatric dentistry at the University of Louisville School of Dentistry and Kosair Children’s Hospital in Louisville, Kentucky. There he served as Chief Resident of Pediatric Dentistry during his second year of residency.

During his training, Dr. Snyder earned additional training in the field of pediatric dentistry including: behavior management, hospital dentistry and the treatment of pediatric dental patients under general anesthesia, oral sedation, dental trauma, comprehensive dental care for the pediatric patient, growth and development & interceptive orthodontics, and treatment of patients with special health care needs.

Dr. Snyder holds staff privileges at Alton Memorial Hospital and Cardinal Glennon Childrens Medical Center for the purpose of providing dental treatment under general anesthesia. In addition to private practice, Dr. Snyder holds academic appointments at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine and University of Louisville School of Dentistry in the Pediatric Dentistry Departments.

Dr. Snyder is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, and the Madison District Dental Society.

Dr. Snyder was born and raised in Godfrey, Illinois. Dr. Snyder lives in the Riverbend area with his wife, Sara, and their four children, Nolan, Korby, Colton, and Beckett. In their free time, the Snyders enjoy spending time with family and friends, playing sports and enjoying the outdoors, listening to music and playing games.

Dr. Austin LaMay DMD, MS

Dr. LaMay graduated from the SIU School of Dental Medicine in Alton, IL in 2018. Dr. LaMay is excited to bring his knowledge and expertise to all of our patients!

Dr. LaMay was born and raised in Rockford, IL. After high school, he moved south and attended college at SIU-Edwardsville where he met his wife Lacie LaMay. He continued his education at SIU by attending dental school in Alton, IL graduating in 2018 with his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree and Magna Cum Laude honors. While attending, Dr. LaMay was chosen by his faculty as a distinguished member of his graduating class by nomination into Omicron Kappa Upsilon dental honor society. Dr. LaMay moved to Chicago for his residency and specialty training in pediatric dentistry at the University of Illinois-Chicago College of Dentistry and UI Health Hospital and Health Systems. His residency focused on treating patients under general anesthesia, administering moderate oral conscious sedation, behavior management, child development and psychology, pulp therapy, orthodontics/growth & development, oral care for special health care needs patients/hospital dentistry, dental traumatology, and infant oral health. Dr. LaMay has certifications in BLS (Basic Life Support) and PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support). He is a member of the American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, and Illinois Society of Pediatric Dentists.

Home & Family

Dr. LaMay was born and raised in Rockford, IL. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife, Lacie and son, Gavin. They enjoy water-sports, playing soccer, and visiting new restaurants together. Lacie, an Edwardsville native is anticipating getting back to the area and return to water skiing! Dr. LaMay is excited to be back in the Metro-East and is looking forward to joining the awesome team at Southern Illinois Pediatric Dentistry!

Dr. Valerie Spivey, DMD

Dr. Spivey is a board certified pediatric dentist. Dr. Spivey’s goal is to provide optimum oral health care to children to set them up for a lifetime of dental health.

Education and Professional Associations

Dr. Spivey earned her Bachelors of Science in Chemistry at Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. She earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine in 2010.

Following dental school, Dr. Spivey returned to her home town serving as a general dentist for two years. While working as a general dentist, Dr. Spivey realized that pediatric dentistry gave her the most joy. Dr. Spivey continued her education at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY where she received advanced training in the specialty of pediatric dentistry. Her advanced training in the hospital setting gave her lots of experience with advanced behavior management techniques including nitrous oxide, oral sedation and treatment of patients under general anesthesia.

Dr. Spivey started her pediatric dentistry career back in southern Illinois in Carbondale until she was asked to join the faculty at Southern Illinois University School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Spivey served as the Section Head of Pediatric Dentistry at SIUSDM for seven years and earned the rank of Associate Professor. Dr. Spivey has multiple published research articles in scientific literature comparing the success rates of different filling materials used in pediatric dentistry. Dr. Spivey still returns to the dental school from time to time to guest lecture about the growth of a child’s mouth.

Dr. Spivey is a member of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry, the American Dental Association, the American Dental Education Association, the Illinois State Dental Society, and the Madison District Dental Society.

Dr. Spivey was born and raised in Cave-In-Rock, Illinois, a very small town near the Kentucky border. Dr. Spivey lives in Edwardsville with her husband Eric and daughter Vivian. In their free time you will catch Dr. Spivey’s family on the Madison Country Trails, at the park, a local festival and the local farmer’s market.
